Old Head Golf Links
Old Head Golf Links, Cork, Ireland
Description :The 18 hole, par 72, 7200 yards links course built on 220-acre diamond of land, jutting out over two miles into the Atlantic Ocean. The promontory is almost an island with numerous caves running beneath the feet as one plays the course. The links and practice area occupy 180 acres and the remaining 40 acres of unspoilt cliff (rising in places to over 300 feet) frame the course.
Designed by Ron Kirby and Joe Carr the links course is laid out on a narrow headland, jutting out for 2 miles in the Atlantic Ocean with its signature hole “Lighthouse” which is a long par 5 requiring a bold shot on the right of the fairway, anything left will be a blind approach to the green that is nestled in a punch bowl on the edge of the cliffs.
